The prestigious world-industry conference, organized every three years under the auspices of the IEA Heat Pump Programme, will be held in Montreal on May12-16, 2014. The IEA Heat Pump Programme Executive Committee, made up of one representative from each of the member countries, decided the location in Atlanta (US) in November 2011.

“We at the Heat Pump Programme are delighted that Canada will host the next edition of the world industry’s premier conference in one of the world’s great cultural cities, Montreal,” stated Monica Axell, General Manager of Heat Pump Centre. “Building on the success of past conferences, we look forward to meet our colleagues from around the world in Montréal in 2014” she added.

The IEA Heat Pump Programme operates under the International Energy Agency, as a non-profit organisation where member-country participants cooperate in projects in the field of heat pumps and related heat pumping technologies such as air conditioning and refrigeration. Under the management of an Executive Committee representing the member countries, the Programme carries out a strategy to accelerate heat pump use in all applications where they can reduce energy consumption for the benefit of the environment.

“It is an industry honour of the highest order to organize this event’’ said Denis Tanguay, President & CEO at the Canadian GeoExchange Coalition. “This conference is the perfect forum to learn from and communicate with industry and research experts from all over the world. More than 200 addresses, keynote presentations and papers were presented at the 2011 International Heat Pump Conference, with participants from 26 countries,” noted Mr. Tanguay, who will be acting as the Chairman of the conference National Organizing Committee (NOC).

The collaborative projects within the Heat Pump Programme are known as Annexes. The Annexes operate for a limited period of time, and objectives can vary from research, development, demonstration to implementation of new technology. Market aspects and statistics are other examples of issues that can be highlighted in the projects. The primary activities within the Heat Pump Programme are, besides the Annexes, the triennial IEA-HPC and the workshops, some of them held in conjunction with the conference. At the conference the Rittinger award, the prestigious international award in the air conditioning, heat pump and refrigeration field, is also given.
